Development Coordination Intern - Columbus Symphony Orchestra

The Columbus Symphony’s Nationwide Picnic with the Pops summer concert series, hosted in the Columbus Commons Downtown, consists of 8 evening shows over a period of 7 weeks, reaching a live audience of nearly 20,000. This concert series is integral to our mission to inspire and build a strong community through music.

Beginning in May and ending in July, the Development Coordination Intern will assist with the conclusion of the 2024-2025 Masterworks season and the execution of the 2025 Nationwide Picnic with the Pops season. You will have the opportunity to learn basic techniques and apply communication skills to a variety of projects related to donor stewardship and overall fundraising strategies, as well as gain a thorough understanding of all aspects of the artistic and administrative activities of the orchestra.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the CSO Chief of Staff, assists in preparation of weekly sponsor materials relevant to summer concert series
  • Attends weekly Production meetings
  • Attends Nationwide Picnic with the Pops shows on Saturday evenings (plus the Friday evening show in the final week); assists with setup and teardown of donor stewardship tables and various coordination tasks; regularly interacts and communicates with volunteers
  • Assists with day to-day administrative tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Recent college graduates or rising seniors interested in arts and nonprofit work
  • Bachelor’s degree (or undergraduate major) in Arts Administration or another related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; open to team communication and willing to ask questions
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational and research skills

The ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated and eager to learn, with a passion for the arts, non-profits, accessibility, and diversity.

Work Schedule

The Development Coordination Internship is a part-time (20hr/week) position beginning in May 2025 and ending in July 2025. Approximately 10-15 hours per week will be spent in the office assisting with preparation and administrative tasks, and 5-10 hours per week will be spent at the Saturday (and Friday) evening outdoor concerts. Division of weekly hours is flexible, depending on course schedule or other outside responsibilities.
