Employer Assigned Department Head (EADH) - PT

Location: Columbus, OH

Primary Function

The Employer Assigned Department Head (EADH) supports stage operations at CAPA facilities as assigned. This position serves as the First Department Head called after the Head Carpenter and steps in as the Head Carpenter for the assigned CAPA venue in their absence.

Part Time Hourly (20 hours weekly for 41 weeks per year)

Duties and Responsibilities

Non-performance responsibilities

  • Maintains CAPA stage equipment.
  • Receives deliveries related to stage events.
  • Works with user groups to prepare for upcoming events, including appropriate staffing levels, work hours, and equipment needs.
  • Works with staff to establish and implement the Facility Fund budget.
  • Prepares, approves, and submits payroll for stagehands when serving as Head Carpenter.
  • Provides positive working relationships with users and building staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Event responsibilities

  • Works with the Head Carpenter to support stage operations.
  • Maintains a safe working environment for guests, staff, and users, including working with security and adhering to safety rules from management and regulatory agencies.
  • Provides stage personnel and equipment cost to CAPA staff for show settlement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Able to frequently lift up to 25 lbs., occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb and be comfortable in high places.
  • Working knowledge of stage rigging.
  • Well-rounded understanding of carpentry, electrics, and sound to be able to monitor all facets of event production
  • Ability to problem solve, including diplomatic resolution of situations that sometimes arise for the users of the theatre.

Credentials and Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience directing stage personnel.
  • Ability to become a member of IATSE Local 12 after hire and remain in good standing.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when theatre activity requires.
