Director of Operations, McCoy Center for the Arts & The Hinson Amphitheater

Location: New Albany, OH

Primary Function

The Director of Operations supervises all facets of the operation of the theatre for the McCoy Center & Hinson Amphitheater presentations and rentals. This position is the “go to” person for all performance and front of house operating activities. The Director is ultimately responsible for the cleanliness and safety of the McCoy Center Complex and the Hinson Amphitheatre and for the patrons and users who reside in this space. This position coordinates with other NAPLS and City of New Albany departments to ensure that the patron and performer experience is of the highest quality.

Duties and Responsibilities

Non-performance responsibilities

  • Schedules and supervises house managers, security personnel and custodial services.

  • Works with user groups to prepare for upcoming events.

  • Updates drop count file in a timely manner.

  • Reviews, approves, and submits payroll for hourly workers.

  • Approves and submits invoices.

  • Completes show estimates and settlements.

  • Supports box office operations as needed.

  • Manages rental side of scheduling calendar and works closely with the NA School District on scheduling conflicts.

  • Assists marketing and development with various projects as required.

  • Executes agreements and approves insurance certificates and liquor licenses.

Performance responsibilities

  • Oversees Front of House operations.

  • Prepares the theatre and amphitheater for events.

  • Works with the Technical Director and artist management to coordinate performances.

  • Works with the Volunteer Coordinator on preparing volunteers for events.

  • Prepares Information Sheet for each event.

  • Works with box office staff on seating issues.

  • Works with security to provide a safe environment for all guests and staff.

  • Performs proper checks for both opening and closing of the theatre and amphitheater.

  • Settles with show merchandising as required.

  • Prepares house report.

  • Prepares incident reports as required.

  • Prepares settlements.

  • Provides night of show support to on-site ticketing staff as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to perform moderate lifting, standing, bending and kneeling.

  • Ability to climb stairs repeatedly throughout course of performance and/or workday.

  • Ability to problem solve, including diplomatic resolution of situations that sometimes arise for the public users of the theatre.

  • Ability to work well with the general public and user groups.

  • Excellent attention to detail, especially as it relates to the care and upkeep of the theatre and other facilities.

Credentials and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with the public in an operational capacity.

  • Experience supervising event staff.

  • Ability to work various daytime, evening and weekend hours, as theatre and amphitheater activity requires.
