Youth Orchestra Operations Coordinator

Location: Columbus, OH

Primary Function
The Youth Orchestra Operations Coordinator coordinates all aspects necessary for the operation of the Youth
Orchestra. This position supports the CSO Education Department and is a liaison between the Department, the
Youth Orchestra conductor, musicians, and parents.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes regular communication with the Music Director regarding Youth Orchestra attendance, coaching status, and general rehearsal needs before each rehearsal.
  • Maintains open communication with the Youth Orchestras Coordinator regarding Youth Orchestra status and operations.
  • Prepares music folders for rehearsals and events.
  • Attends all scheduled rehearsals, concerts, and retreats.
  • Ensures all concerts and retreats have necessary auxiliary instruments, percussion equipment, and accessories.
  • Schedules coaches for sectional rehearsals and retreats in a timely manner.
  • Oversees all ensemble operational needs.
  • Promptly responds to parent communications appropriately and professionally.
  • Prepares rehearsal space by setting up chairs, stands, and conductor podium.
  • Maintains attendance for every rehearsal and follows up on absences during rehearsal time by contacting students and families.
  • Collects the music following each concert.
  • Empties folders after the final concert, determining any lost music, and communicating to families and the Youth Orchestras Manager.
  • Assists with student photo day in Fall.
  • Follows and exemplifies Youth Orchestra standards and policies as stated in the Youth Orchestra Handbook.
  • Assists the Education Department in assignments and tasks relating to the CSYO Season and Education events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with orchestral music, instruments, and the general operations of an orchestra
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate comfortably and promptly
  • with students and parents.
  • Close attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Credentials and Experience

  • Degree in Music Education, current Music Education student, or extensive knowledge of music.
  • 1-3 years’ orchestra or band experience.
  • Experience in a leadership role or position is desired.
  • Must be available Wednesdays from 6:00 pm-10:00 pm for weekly Youth Orchestra rehearsals throughout the CSYO season (August-April).
  • Valid Driver’s License with the ability to provide own transportation. Proof of personal car insurance is required for driving company vehicles.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
